What kitchen trends should we be looking for in 2024!

Kitchen Trends 2024
1. Textured Tiles
One of the easiest ways to add some interest and personality to your kitchen is to use textured tiles for your backsplash, floor, or accent wall. Textured tiles can create a variety of effects, from glossy to matte, from ridged to embossed, from geometric to organic. Textured tiles can also work with any style, from minimalist to maximalist, from modern to vintage.
2. Pared-Back Hardware
Another trend that will give your kitchen a sleek and sophisticated look is to opt for pared-back hardware for your cabinets, drawers, and appliances. Instead of flashy or bulky knobs, handles, and sinks, go for recessed, integrated, or hidden options that blend in with the rest of the design. You can also add some subtle metallic accents, such as gold, copper, or brass, to outline the edges of your cabinetry or island, or to hang some pendant lights over your dining area.
3. Dramatic Islands
If you have enough space in your kitchen, a dramatic island can be a great way to make a statement and increase your functionality. A dramatic island can be defined by its size, shape, material, or color. For example, you can choose an oversized counter slab with a waterfall edge, a curved or angular island that breaks the monotony of straight lines, a stone or quartz island that showcases graphic veining and details, or a bold or bright color that stands out from the rest of the kitchen.
4. Fluted Details
One of the most eye-catching and elegant trends for 2024 is to incorporate fluted details into your kitchen design. Fluting is a technique that creates vertical grooves or ridges on a surface, adding texture and depth. You can use fluting to enhance your kitchen island, your cabinets, your countertops, or your furniture. Fluting can also suit different aesthetics, from midcentury to contemporary, depending on the pattern and the finish.
5. Warm Neutrals
While white and gray have been the dominant colors for kitchens in the past few years, 2024 will see a shift to warmer and softer neutrals, such as beige, cream, taupe, and brown. These colors can create a cozy and inviting atmosphere in your kitchen, as well as complement natural materials like wood, stone, and metal. You can also mix and match different shades of neutrals, or add some pops of color, such as green, blue, or yellow, to create some contrast and interest.

How to plan lighting into your design.

lighting into your design.Lighting is no longer just a kitchen accessory, it’s a necessity. Creating a tailored lighting plan in the early stages of your kitchen design can not only help make your space feel lighter and brighter, it can also be cleverly used to make a room appear bigger, or can be manipulated to draw attention to focal features. Our Second Nature designers are there to help you make those all important lighting choices- but if you’re looking for inspiration at the moment, here are some of the key design elements to consider.

WHAT LIGHTING DO YOU NEED AND WHERE?

When selecting the most appropriate lighting for your kitchen, it’s important to assess what various tasks you will be carrying out in the space. For example, you’re likely to use the space for food preparation and serving, but, will you also be using it to dine and socialise? A good place to start is to consider these three key lighting choices:

TASK LIGHTING
Task lighting provides effective lighting to undertake everyday activities such as food preparation and serving. Perfectly positioned above the correct worksurfaces, task lighting makes the kitchen an efficient working space whilst helping to eliminate dark corners, alcoves and spaces that suffer from low natural light.

MOOD LIGHTING
Also referred to as feature, decorative or accent lighting, mood lighting is used to add dimension and depth to the room in order to create atmosphere and provide personality. This can include pendant lights above a kitchen island or dining area to brighten the social space, wow-factor lighting in a pantry or drinks unit, or strip lighting added beneath units, shelves or lining the floor. All of these help to improve the aesthetic of your kitchen and can be used to create a statement or bring ambiance to the room.

CONVENIENCE LIGHTING
Convenience lighting has a specific purpose- it is directional and intended to be focused towards a specific area, or to be used for a particular job in drawers or in cabinets. For example, convenience lighting can be used to illuminate dark corner cupboards or cabinets, alcoves that don’t receive much natural lighting or to spotlight certain items on shelves.

WHERE CAN YOU MAKE THE MOST OF NATURAL LIGHT?
When planning your new kitchen and the orientation of your design, it’s also important to assess how much natural light the room gets.If you have a north-facing room, it’s going to need more artificial lighting as they receive little or no direct sunlight throughout the day, whereas, if you have a south or west facing kitchen, it will be naturally bright throughout the day, meaning you should only need lights on an evening. If you know your space doesn’t have a lot of natural light, this can also help you plan the colours of your walls, cabinets, flooring and worktops before choosing artificial lights, as high-gloss finishes and lighter shades will help to reflect light around, making a space appear brighter.

Kitchen refurbishments on a Budget?

A new kitchen can be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. There are many ways to update your kitchen without breaking the bank. In this guide, we will discuss everything you need to know about replacement kitchen doors, including the why, when, and how. We will also provide you with some design and installation tips from William Cope.

Here are a few tips:

  • Replace the kitchen doors. This is a quick and easy way to give your kitchen a new look. You can find a wide variety of doors to choose from, in a range of styles and finishes.
  • Shop around. Get quotes from multiple suppliers before making a purchase. This will help you ensure that you’re getting the best possible price. Call us now
  • Wait for sales. Many retailers offer sales on kitchen products throughout the year. If you’re patient, you can often find great deals.

Why would I need replacement kitchen doors?

Kitchens go through a lot, so visible signs of wear and ageing are bound to develop in the parts you use most often. Countertops and cupboard doors regularly come into contact with everything from oily fingertips to pigmented foods, and young children can have a habit of swinging on the doors in family homes. Whatever your kitchen goes through day-to-day, the following may appear:

  • Accidental scratches, chips, dents, and cracks
  • Discolouration, marks, and stains from spillages
  • Damaged door hinges or warped wood from careless use
  • Heat and moisture damage (e.g. peeling paint, water marks)

Even when you use your kitchen responsibly and stay on top of cleaning, it’s practically inevitable that scrapes and splotches will build up over time. Exposure to sunlight can also cause colours to fade, making your finishes look patchy. It’s easy to ignore these issues as long as your kitchen is still functional, but there comes a point when a worn appearance really brings down the room.

Whether through want or necessity, due to badly ageing décor or poor condition, replacing cabinet doors is more viable for many than investing in an entire new kitchen suite. If your doors are the main feature letting your kitchen down, they’re the first thing you should update to give the space a new lease of life. This also gives you a great opportunity to explore design trends and preferences.

Replacement Kitchen door guide

When should you replace your kitchen doors?

Kitchen cabinets can last for many years, but eventually they will need to be replaced. If your cabinets are starting to look worn or outdated, you may be wondering if it’s time to replace them entirely. However, there is another option that can save you time and money: replacing the doors.

Replacing kitchen doors is a relatively easy and affordable way to update your kitchen’s look. It’s a great option if the cabinets themselves are still in good condition, but the doors are scratched, faded, or simply don’t match your style anymore.

Here are a few signs that it’s time to replace your kitchen doors:

  • The doors are scratched, faded, or damaged.
  • The doors are no longer in style.
  • The doors are not the right size for your cabinets.
  • The doors are not made of a durable material.

If you’re considering replacing your kitchen doors, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Choose doors that are made of a durable material, such as wood or MDF.
  • Choose doors that are the right size for your cabinets.
  • Choose doors that match your style.
  • Choose doors that are affordable.

Replacing your kitchen doors is a great way to update your kitchen without having to replace the entire cabinetry. It’s a relatively easy and affordable project that can make a big difference in the look of your kitchen.

Here are some additional tips for replacing your kitchen doors:

  • Measure your cabinets carefully before you start shopping for new doors.
  • Get quotes from multiple suppliers before you make a decision.
  • Consider buying pre-finished doors, or have them custom-made to match your exact specifications.
  • If you’re not comfortable installing the doors yourself, hire a professional to do it for you.

With a little planning and effort, you can easily replace your kitchen doors and give your kitchen a new look.

5 benefits of buying replacement kitchen doors

Want to know one of the best-kept secrets about reinventing your kitchen? Spending money you don’t have to spare isn’t the only way to do it, but most people aren’t aware of the affordable alternative – replacement kitchen doors. Here are five major benefits of replacement doors:

1) Spending less money

As we know, buying kitchen units complete with doors and drawer fronts costs a lot more than just buying the doors separately. In times of economic strain, consumers are likely to gravitate towards cheaper options. Carcasses will last a lot longer than moving parts like doors and hinges, so why fix what isn’t broken? Changing the doors achieves the desired effect without breaking the bank.

2) Saving time and effort

Not only can replacement kitchen doors save you money, but they’re also less time-consuming to order and install, so you can enjoy your new kitchen sooner. Production and delivery will be faster than it would for entire units, and removing the old doors and attaching the new ones takes less time and doesn’t leave as much mess. It’s easy to DIY, too, instead of paying a professional fitter.

3) Providing a stylish new look

When the cupboard doors are closed, you’re unlikely to even notice the colour of the units behind them. It’s the style and finish of the outward-facing doors that leaves the biggest impression. By switching to a trendier type of door, you can create the illusion of a total kitchen transformation – without shelling out for new units. This is the number one hassle-free way to spruce up a kitchen.

4) Adding modern mechanisms & storage solutions

Replacing doors doesn’t involve any radical layout changes, but it does give you a chance to take your cabinets to the next level. At William Cope, all of our replacement doors come with soft-closing hinges from the German manufacturer Hettich, making it safe, smooth, and quiet to open and close them. You can also add kitchen accessories like built-in storage and new handles.

5) Getting more out of your units

Even the most well-made kitchen units will need replacing eventually, but they’ll hold up for many years beyond the doors. Due to all the pulling and pushing, swinging and slamming, and the light, temperature, and moisture changes that come with their location, exposed doors will deteriorate at a faster rate. When you replace them, you’re making your kitchen last for longer by maintaining the still-functional framework. You can replace the doors several times throughout the unit’s lifespan.

How to choose replacement kitchen doors

If you’re considering new kitchen cabinet doors, you might not know where to start, especially if it’s been a while since you last browsed through kitchen designs. Luckily, William Cope has years of industry experience in supplying a vast range of high-quality kitchen units and doors. Here are some tips on shopping for replacement kitchen doors and choosing the best design.

Where to find replacement cabinet doors?

The first step is searching online for kitchen ideas to narrow down what you’re looking for. Our kitchen installation gallery has plenty of inspiration for both classic and colourful cupboard doors. You can also browse our replacement door collections directly on our site to see product images. However, viewing in person is often preferable, as the photography in online kitchen brochures can’t always capture how a colour and finish looks in real life. If you’re within travelling distance of Ripon in Yorkshire, then we’d recommend visiting the William Cope showroom to check out our options with your own eyes. You’ll also have the opportunity to speak directly with our staff.

Even if you can’t make a trip to our showroom, you can still order kitchen door samples online. We’ll send you a small sample of the chosen door style so you can see how it looks in your kitchen. If you order a set of doors in that style, we’ll even deduct the cost of the samples from your order!

As we start the new year we start to get an idea of what the trending colours will be. Let’s take a closer look at the colours that have been released so far;

Benjamin Moore has gone with, in their own words, “A vivacious shade of coral tinged with pink, Raspberry Blush enlivens the senses with an electric optimism.”

We could all do with some optimism right now and this colour doesn’t disappoint, it creates a warm inviting feeling and when used on panelling really gives depth and shadow to the bright colour.

Pantone sticking with a similar tone, “is a new animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint, an electrifying, and a boundaryless shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement.” Whilst being a bold colour this shouldn’t put you off, being brave with colour can achieve a unique and inviting setting. Giving dimension to a room that changes throughout the changing light of day into night.

5 Factors to Consider When Choosing a Design for your Kitchen

For many people, the kitchen is the heart of the home. Regardless of your culinary skills, it’s likely to be a room that you use every single day for cooking, eating, socialising, and perhaps even working or helping the kids with their homework. That’s why it is important to get the interior design of your kitchen right.

Here at William Cope, we work with you to turn your dream kitchen into a reality. To help us understand your vision a little better and ensure we create the perfect space for your needs, here are five factors to take into consideration when choosing your interior design.

1. How much space you have

One issue that has a big impact on what sort of design will best suit your kitchen is how much physical space you have. For example, if you have a long and narrow galley kitchen, then a large kitchen island is not going to be the most appropriate choice. Taking size into account from the very beginning ensures you won’t be disappointed by falling in love with a kitchen style you don’t have room for.

2. What you use the kitchen for

Another important step is to take some time and think about exactly what you use your kitchen for – or what you want to be able to use it for. This includes factors such as how much cooking you like to do, whether you also eat in the kitchen or prefer to use a separate dining room, and whether your kitchen doubles as a home office or hobby space. It’s also helpful to consider where the main thoroughfares are, and how child-friendly you need the kitchen to be. Knowing this helps us to design a space that truly ticks all of your boxes.

3. Theme

One of the enjoyable aspects of choosing a kitchen design is thinking about what sort of theme you would prefer. For instance, are you hoping for a sleek minimalist space, a modern industrial look, a homely countryside atmosphere, or a kitchen with a relaxed Mediterranean vibe? Consider what matches your personality and the rest of your home decor, and we’ll work to execute your vision.

4. Colour scheme

Even if you don’t want to go all out with a theme, colour is a key aspect of kitchen design. As a rough guide, small spaces tend to do better with light colour schemes, while larger kitchens that have a lot of natural light can afford to go darker. Whether you prefer bold reds, regal purples, or natural greens and blues, we can create a customised kitchen space you’ll love.

5. Storage solutions

Kitchens tend to require a lot of storage space for food and drink, cookware, tableware, and so on – especially if you enjoy cooking at home a lot. No matter how large your kitchen is, we can come up with innovative solutions to all your storage needs. Whether you want to maximise space with floor-to-ceiling cupboards, use glass-fronted cabinets to display beautiful glassware, or install open shelving for easy access, there’s a practical option to suit you.

Why Good Design is Vital for Your Home Office

With more and more of us now working from home on a permanent basis, good home office design has never been so important. Having a separate space where you can concentrate on your job is key for several different reasons, and here at William Cope, we’ll work to design an office area that perfectly suits your individual needs and the interior of your home.

Here are just some of the ways in which an expertly designed home office can be advantageous for you.

It Boosts Your Productivity

Your physical environment has an enormous impact on how productive you are during work hours. Some aspects of this are obvious, such as noise levels and the presence of other distractions, but design plays a key role too. As an example, the colours that you use and the decor you surround yourself with can have an impact on your mood and how productive you are. In addition, having a separate space dedicated solely to work helps you to get in a productive mindset every time you sit down there. A professionally designed home office enables you to maximise the amount you get done during work hours, which in turn makes it easier to switch off at the end of the day and enjoy your downtime.

It Enhances Your Creativity

The space in which you work can also have an effect on how creative you are. Even something as basic as higher ceilings have been shown to help us think more creatively. Exposure to nature is also key, so a home office design that incorporates houseplants or views of your garden can help to spark those crucial lightbulb moments. Once again, colour plays a part here, and blue, in particular, is thought to inspire creative thinking.

It Ensures You’re Comfortable

If you have a job that involves being at your desk all day, comfort is vital – and hunching over a laptop on the sofa is a recipe for disaster. Having an ergonomic setup will help you to avoid backache, neck pain, and other health complaints that are common among office workers. At the bare minimum, you’ll need a proper desk and supportive chair, but a professionally designed space can also take into account factors such as natural lighting that will help to reduce the risk of eye strain. Put in the effort now, and your future self will thank you!

It Adds Practicality

Lastly, a professionally designed home office can maximise the practicality of your workspace. Clutter is one of the enemies of both productivity and creativity, so by incorporating clever storage options in your office space, you can enjoy a multitude of benefits. Whether you need pens and paper to hand, a whiteboard for idea generation, document storage space, or a multi-screen computer setup, we can come up with innovative solutions to all your individual needs and make the most of the space you have available.

If you’re interested in hiring interior designers in Bournemouth to refresh your home office space, contact us for a free consultation. We’ll combine our passion for design with our 20 years of experience to create your perfect workspace. You’ll never want to go back to the office again!
